I Have a New Dress!

Here is my dress. My husband took the pictures, and got a little too into it. How adorable.

I'm really happy with the outcome. The dress is NOT perfect AT ALL; there are so many things that could have done better. Like, such as:
- The invisible zipper is totally visible. invisible zippers are my vice. I had to sew in three separate zippers because one broke, one was too short, and the next one is hardly perfect.
- The hem was tricky. for some reason as i hemmed it on the machine, the part that is turned up underneath kept bubbling since it is a bigger circumference than the hemline (that must be so hard to understand if you don't sew. Just take my word for it-- it was difficult).
- the fabric in general was a beast. It frayed like crazy and is also really thick, making it bulky in some areas with lots of seams, like the yoke.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy. Take a looksy:

The clips are, of course, Fleur and Feather.

  8. Adorable dress!!! Can you tell me the name of the fabric. I need a skirt out of that... yes I do!! I love in California and my daughter (15) wants to major in Fashion Design at BYU. When I come to Utah this summer would you be willing to meet with her and talk about your experience at BYU? I thinkit might really motivate her. I promise, I'll make it worth your time. I sell jewelry --- at crystalbeutler.etsy.com Keep sewing girl... you have talent.

  9. Mm, zippers are tricky. After years of sewing, I still use the instructions in a Singer book my mom has when I do a zipper. In fact, she's pretty good (sewing for decades) and she still refers to it because it is so clear. I tried to find it online and of course her version is about 20 years old, but it's probably either The New Sewing Essentials or the Photo Guide to sewing by Singer. Highly recomend. And keep at it, you're good!

  10. The hem thing, I know. I leaned a trick for it though and wrote a tutorial on it here's the link.

2 dresses a month is an awesome goal, I'll be happy to see what you come up with.

  12. I somehow stumbled on your blog and love your designs. I also took sewing at BYU and was so scared of Dr. B. So much in fact, that I didn't pursue anymore sewing classes! I still sew, of course, but my skills are still in the process :) Did you design this dress? Or is a pattern I could find somewhere? It's adorable! I'm also interested in your postpartum line. Thanks for all the inspiration!
